About Eugene Lipov
After watching his father, a World War II veteran, and others around him struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and health issues related to war trauma, Dr. Eugene Lipov developed a passion for helping others. This eventually led him to a life dedicated to medicine and health care.
After graduating from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in 1984, Dr. Lipov participated in his trauma surgical residency at Cook County Hospital in 1985, where he worked first-hand with trauma victims and first responders.
He completed his anesthesia residency at the University of Illinois and his advanced pain training at Rush University Medical Center. He then served as an assistant professor of anesthesiology at Rush University for seven years.
After leaving Rush University, he opened his private practice, Advanced Pain Center, in the Chicago area, where he has practiced for over 20 years. He serves as a director at the pain clinic at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, working with patients with a variety of different types of pain.
Dr. Lipov’s passion for helping people has never waned. He pioneered the adaptation of a sympathetic block in the neck, the Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB), for the treatment of PTSD and hot flashes. His current success rate is significantly higher than published (70%) for PTSD because of modifications to the procedure. Current therapeutic approaches, such as pharmaceutical and psychotherapeutic treatments not involving SGB, see a success rate of less than 30%.
Dr. Lipov also works to lift the stigma around mental illness. He has often stated that PTSD and other mental health challenges are biological phenomena, measurable if one has a correct scanner and treatable by utilizing biological means.
He is a proud supporter of ErasePTSDNow, a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds to treat trauma survivors. ErasePTSDNow has positively impacted the lives of over 200 patients, including 100 patients whose travel and treatment were funded by the foundation. Dr. Lipov and the foundation have successfully helped patients suffering from PTSD as a result of military-service, military sexual trauma, first responders, non-military sexual trauma, pediatric sexual trauma and other traumatic events.
He takes pride in changing people’s lives and giving them hope. As a medical practitioner, he always seeks solutions that are fast, safe and highly effective.
