About Maria Asia Sierra
With a deep passion for the transformative power of light, Asia Sierra is a recognized lighting designer and the founder of SIGO, Architectural Lighting Studio, an independent practice based in Barcelona. She believes that lighting is more than a visual tool—it is a fundamental element in shaping human well-being, health, and spatial experiences.
Her career includes collaborations with renowned firms such as Voltaire Lighting Studio, Light Cibles, BMLD, and Artec3 Studio, where she honed her expertise in architectural and urban lighting. In 2018, she co-founded Fantastico Lighting Partners, further solidifying her role as a leader in the field. With a multidisciplinary background spanning Interior Architecture, Lighting Design, and Industrial Design studies in Madrid, Milan, and the Rhode Island School of Design, she has developed a distinct, human-centered approach.
At SIGO, Asia leads projects across hospitality, retail, education and cultural institutions, corporate and commercial spaces, offices, and residential environments. She ensures that every design integrates cutting-edge research on circadian rhythms, visual comfort, and emotional well-being, prioritizing lighting as a driver of health and quality of life. Her work seamlessly blends scientific insight with creative vision, crafting spaces that enhance both function and atmosphere.
